BC Falls at Virginia, 24-14

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Boston College fell for the first time in ACC play this season, dropping a 24-14 decision at Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Castellanos finished the game 22-for-30 for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He connected with six receivers on the day, led by seven catches for 79 yards from Lewis Bond. Jaedn Skeete hauled in six passes for 59 yards and a touchdown, while Kamari Morales had five catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Turbo Richard led all rushers with 51 yards on nine carries.

Boston College jumped out to a 7-0 lead, as Castellanos found Jaedn Skeete from nine yards out, making it 7-0 on its first series of the afternoon. The Eagles made it 14-0 early in the second quarter, as Kamari Morales connected with Castellanos on a 29-yard touchdown strike, with 13:15 to play in the opening half.

Virginia got on the scoreboard on its next series, connecting on a 35-yard field goal with 4:46 left in the second half and added another three-pointer - this time from 33 yards out - as time expired. It was 14-6 at the break.

Neither team gained much traction during the third quarter, but over the final frame, Virginia began to come alive. A 27-yard field goal with 13:31 to play made it 14-9. Castellanos' pass with 11:14 to play was intercepted, leading to UVA's first touchdown and lead of the day. After the two-point conversion, UVA led, 17-14 with 10:39 to go.

The Eagles turned the ball over on their next series, losing control of the ball as the Cavs recovered the fumble at the BC 40 yard line and returned it to the endzone - making it 24-14 with just over six minutes remaining. BC turned the ball over on downs on its next series but held Virginia scoreless on its next series. But the comeback would come up short as Virginia recorded its second interception of the day.

Donovan Ezeiruaku registered 10 tackles - seven solo and two for a loss - and a sack. KP Price added 10 tackles (four solo) and a pass break up. Cam Horsley (eight tackles) and Neto Okpala (six tackles) also led the way for the BC defensive corps.

For the game, BC totaled 319 total yards (254 passing, 65 rushing), including 17 first downs. The Eagles were 6-of-13 on third down.

After a bye week, Boston College returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 17 when it travels to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
