Sophomore forward pours in 30 points in homecoming
ATLANTA (AP)Â -- Devin McGlockton scored a career-high 30 points, and Boston College rallied from a 16-point deficit in the second half and beat Georgia Tech 95-87 on Saturday for its first Atlantic Coast Conference win and ending a five-game losing streak against the Yellow Jackets.
McGlockton - who hails from nearby Cumming, Ga, - connected on 12-of-15 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from the perimeter. He added five boards, two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot in the victory.
It was a back and forth affair to start the game, as BC made its first five shots from the floor and took a 15-7 lead less than four and a half minutes into the game. Georgia Tech would use the 3-pointer to get back in the game, tying it at 19-19 after a deep shot with 11:25 left in the half. GT built as much as a seven-point lead - 40-33 - with 3:47 left before a McGlockton layup and a Quinten Post and-one cut the deficit to two, at 40-38 with 2:58 to go. Georgia Tech closed the half scoring 11 unanswered and led 51-38 at the break. The Yellow Jackets made 9-of-18 from long range in the first half.
After Georgia Tech hit a 3-pointer to open the second half to give the Yellow Jackets their largest lead of the game at 54-38, Boston College shifted into gear. The Eagles used a 17-3 run, capped by seven straight points by Chas Kelley III to take a 74-66 advantage with 7:07 to play. Georgia Tech answered with a 13-2 surge for its last lead, 79-76, with 4:12 left. BC turned the final four minutes into a virtual shootaround, as Claudell Harris Jr. drilled his fourth 3-pointer of the game and McGlockton his third on consecutive possessions as BC scored the next 11 points ended the game on a 19-8 run.
Harris finished with 26 points on the day, making 8-of-10 shots from the floor, including all four 3-point attempts. It marked the first time since Jan. 31, 2018 that a BC player had at least 30 and another 20 in a single game (Jerome Robinson - 32; Ky Bowman 22 vs. Virginia Tech). Post added 15 points and seven assists for Boston College, which shot 56% (35-of-63) overall.
Boston College returns to action on Wednesday at Syracuse. Tipoff at the Dome is set for 9 pm and the game will air on ACC Network.
