BOSTON COLLEGE VS. NORTH CAROLINA - ALL-TIME SERIES
- Today's game marks the 29th meeting between the two schools. Boston College is 6-22 all-time vs. UNC, dating back to 1966-67.
- In ACC regular season play, BC is 5-19 against North Carolina. The Tar Heels have captured 16 of the last 17 matchups.
- UNC won 72-64 in Chapel Hill on Jan. 17 in the regular season. A 56-55 game with 6:00 left, BC went cold down the stretch.
- The Tar Heels took an 85-61 win in the ACC Tournament on March 8.
- On Feb. 1, 2020, BC earned a 71-70 win at the Smith Center - it was the Eagles' first win over UNC in nearly a decade (Feb. 20, 2010).
- BC also downed top-seeded UNC, 75-72, in the second round of the 1994 NCAA Tournament en route to the Eagles' run to the Elite Eight.
- Earl Grant is 0-5 all-time against North Carolina as a head coach.
- This marks the ninth time BC has faced a top five-ranked UNC team.
BOSTON COLLEGE AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
- Boston College has compiled 70 wins all-time overall against ranked opponents; 21 wins have come versus top 10 teams; seven versus top five foes.
- Last week, a depleted Eagles' squad fell, 89-78, to #21/22 Clemson
- A season ago, Boston College was 3-5 against ranked teams. It marked the first time since the 2008-09 season where BC earned three victories over ranked opponents.
- BC downed #20/21 Virginia Tech, 70-65, in overtime on Dec. 21, 2022 - snapping a nine-game slide vs. ranked opponents.Â
- Boston College also bested #20/23 Clemson, 62-54, and #6/6 Virginia, 63-48, on Feb. 22, 2023.
- BC's last win over a top five opponent came on Dec. 9, 2017, when Boston College downed #1/1 Duke, 89-84.
- The last three wins over top five ranked opponents were against the No. 1 team in the country.Â
MOST IMPROVED McGLOCKTON
- Devin McGlockton is staking an early claim for a spot on the All-ACC team and the league's Most Improved Player award.
- In his second full season, McGlockton is showing major jumps in virtually every statistical category, year over year.
- Through 16 games, McGlockton is fourth on the Eagles in scoring (10.1) and second in rebounding (6.5) and blocks (1.2).
- McGlockton's per game averages have increased across the board: scoring +4.3, rebounding +2.6, and blocked shots +0.5.
- He is connecting on better than 58% of his shot attempts from the floor, up from 55%.
- With nine made from beyond the arc, McGlockton has already surpassed his 3-point total (7) from a season ago.
- In ACC play, McGlockton is averaging nearly a double-double - 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds.
- His .635 field goal percentage (33-52) ranks second in the ACC in conference play.
- McGlockton registered the fourth-highest single-game scoring total in ACC play - a 30-point performance at Georgia Tech.
- On Jan. 10, McGlockton logged his first double-double of the season, with 15 points and 14 boards at Syracuse.
- He has set new single-game career-highs in scoring (30), rebounding (14), and blocks (3) this year.
TODAY'S BOSTON COLLEGE NOTE(S) YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT
- After not scoring at Syracuse on Jan. 10, Jaeden Zackery has scored 38 points over his last two games.
- Since 1996-97, two other Boston College players have scored at least 38 points since going scoreless in a game: Joe Rahon in 2013-14 (0 vs. UConn, 11/21/13; 22 vs. Washington, 11/22/13; 19 vs. Sacred Heart, 11/26/13) and Tyrese Rice in 2008-09 (0 vs. USC Upstate, 12/14/08; 20 vs. Providence, 12/20/08; 21 vs. Maine, 12/23/08).
- Quinten Post also went scoreless at Syracuse - and after missing Clemson due to illness - scored 17 points in his next game out against Notre Dame. Six other players in the ACC this season went scoreless and had at least 17 in the next game.

POST, PARTY OF ONE
- Quinten Post is one of the best players in the country and his stat line for the Eagles this season is perfect evidence.
- He is the only player in the country averaging at least 16.9 points, 7.4 boards, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game.
- Using only points and rebounds: Post is one of nine major conference players averaging at least 16.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game; five of those players are on the Wooden midseason list; two in the ACC (Flipkowski, Omier).
- Using only points and assists: Post is one of 18 major conference players to average at least 16.9 points and 3.3 assists per game. The other 17 players are all guards. Eight of those players are on the Wooden midseason list. Â
- Post is also posting a 50/40/80 line of shooting percentages - connecting on 50.2 FG%, 44.4 3FG%, and 82.7 FT%.
- Post is one of 10 players in the nation - and the only ACC standout - to post those percentages (min. 15.0 ppg).
- It's not a small sample: in 66 games at BC since 2021-22, Post has registered nearly a 50/40/80 shooting line - .514 FG; .414 3FG; .794 FT. - the only active player (min. 12.0 ppg) to post such shooting lines since the start of 2021-22- present.
- Over the past two seasons vs. major conference opponents (24 games), Post is averaging nearly 15.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks while shooting .522/.438/.814.
YEAR OVER YEAR IMPROVEMENTS
- Boston College ranks 96th nationally (6th ACC) in scoring, at 78.0 points per game.
- A year ago, the Eagles were 303rd (14th ACC) in points per game, at 66.6 per outing.
- BC currently ranks 95th nationally (5th ACC) in field goal percentage, connecting on 46.4% of its shot attempts.
- A season ago, the Eagles were 222nd (11th ACC), making only 43.7% of its shots from the floor.
- BC has seen similar jumps, year-over-year, in its 3-point field goal percentage.
- This year, the Eagles rank 62nd nationally (4th ACC) in 3FG%, connecting on 36.4% of their long-distance tries.
- In 2022-23, BC ranked among the bottom nationally - 294th (14th ACC) at 31.9%.
PIONEER AND TRAILBLAZER JOHN AUSTIN TO HAVE JERSEY RETIRED ON FEB. 17
- On Feb. 17, Boston College men's basketball pioneer and trailblazer John Austin will have his jersey retired.
- Austin was the first African American to play for the Eagles' and the first-ever BC player to earn All-American accolades.
- He starred for BC from 1963-66 and quickly established himself as one of the top scorers in the country.
- As a sophomore at the Heights, the 6-1 guard averaged 29.2 points per game - good for eighth nationally. Â
- He followed that up by ranking sixth nationally in scoring as a junior, pouring in 26.9 points per game. For his efforts that season, Austin earned the first of his numerous All-American honors from the AP, NABC, USBWA, and the Helms Foundation.
- As a senior, Austin scored at a 25.4 points per game clip for the Eagles, leading the way for another trip to the NIT. Â
- Austin again was honored nationally, earning All-American accolades from the NABC, USBWA, Helms Foundation, and UPI.
- Each of Austin's single-season scoring averages still rank 1-2-3 in Boston College history.
- This season marks the 60th anniversary of his single-game scoring record. On Feb. 21, 1964, Austin erupted for 49 points against Georgetown. He scored 33 of his 49 points in the first half, finishing with 16 made FG and 17 made FT. Â
- In addition to his BC record, it remains the most points ever scored against Georgetown by an opposing player. Â
- At the time of Austin's graduation in 1966, he left as the program's all-time leading scorer, totaling 1,845 points in 68 games.
- Austin was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 1972. He passed away in November 2020.
COMEBACK KINGS
- Five of Boston College's 11 wins have come when the Eagles have trailed by double digits: Richmond (14, 1st half); Harvard (10, 2nd half); vs. St. John's (10, 2nd half), at Georgia Tech (16, 2nd half); Notre Dame (12, 1st half).
- Boston College's 16-point comeback win at Georgia Tech was the largest for the Eagles since Jan. 15, 2022.
- On that date, the Eagles came back from 23 down in the first half at Clemson to win by two - 70-68.
- The 16-point comeback at GT was the third-most in BC history, behind Clemson (23) and Kent State (18) on Dec. 29, 2004.
CAN'T KNOCK THE HUSTLE
- Boston College is 4-2 this year, 7-1 in 2022-23 and 12-4 since Feb. 21, 2022 when Jaeden Zackery scores at least 15 points.
- Zackery tallied a career-high 21 points in nearly 39 minutes of play at The Citadel on Nov. 10.
- Against Notre Dame, Zackery had a team-high 20 points, grabbing three rebounds, and dropping three dimes.
- On Dec. 8 against Holy Cross, Zackery led BC with 18 points to go with five boards, four assists, and a steal.
- When Zackery goes to the free throw line at least five times, BC is 3-2 this year, was 7-2 in 2022-23, and is 12-5 all-time.
- Zackery has committed one or fewer turnovers in 10 games in 2023-24 and has 24 total turns in 518 minutes of play so far.
- Boston College has won 10 of its last 13 games when Zackery commits one or fewer turnovers in a game.
- Zackery is the only ACC player with at least eight games of 10 points/4 assists/2 steals.
- Last season, Zackery had nine games with four or more assists. He's done so in 13 of 16 games this season.
LOW TURNOVER COUNT
- Boston College ranks 24th nationally (4th in ACC) in turnovers per game, committing 9.8 turnovers per game.
- It is the lowest turnovers per game rate for the Eagles since 2010-11, when BC committed 11.1 turns per outing.
- The Eagles have committed 11 turnovers over their last two games, including a season-low three turns against Notre Dame.
- BC has registered single-digits in the TO column 11 times (8-3 in those games), including 3-0 in games with five or fewer.
ANALYTICALLY CORRECT
- Per KenPom, Boston College ranks 58th nationally (6th ACC) in adjusted offensive efficiency with a 113.6 rating.
- The metric measures the total points scored by a team per 100 possessions.
- It is the highest national ranking in the key offensive metric since the 2013-14 season, when BC was 32nd with a 114.3 mark.
- In ACC play only, BC ranks sixth overall in the conference, with a 107.4 adjusted offensive efficiency mark.
JUST PEACHY
- Devin McGlockton poured in a career-high 30 points in a sort of homecoming at Georgia Tech on Jan. 6.
- The sophomore from Cumming, Ga. - about 45 min. from Atlanta - added five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.
- McGlockton connected on a career-best 12 field goals, including three 3-pointers, in the win.
- He is the second Eagle to reach the 30-point mark this season; Quinten Post poured in 31 points in BC's lidlifter vs. Fairfield.
UNPRECEDENTED
- This season, Quinten Post set new single-game career-highs in scoring (31), rebounding (19), assists (9), blocked shots (5), and steals (6).
- Since 1996-97, no player has equalled those game high statistical figures in a single-season.
- In fact, since 1996-97, only four other players have tallied career-highs equal to what Post has done this season alone.
- Included in that list - 2002-23 National Player of the Year and 15-year NBA veteran David West (Xavier).
ALWAYS LOOK FOR THE HELPERS
- Boston College's top three scorers - Quinten Post, Claudell Harris Jr., and Jaeden Zackery - are also its top three assists men.
- Zackery ranks third in scoring (12.2) and first in assists (4.3), Post is first in scoring (16.9) and second in assists (3.2), and Harris is second in scoring (15.0) and third in assists (1.8). The trio combines for 9.3 of the Eagles' 14.1 assists per game.
- Wake Forest is the only other ACC school to have its top three scorers rank as its top three passers.
BRINGING YOU THE BEST OF THE 80'S AND 90'S
- Boston College has put forth two games with at least 95 points on the scoreboard - at Georgia Tech and vs. Holy Cross.
- Prior to this season, it marks the team's highest scoring total since Feb. 16, 2022 vs. Notre Dame (95).
- The 95 points at Georgia Tech ties for the third-most points scored by BC in an ACC game since joining the league in 2005-06.
- It the most points in a regulation game for BC since Jan. 1, 2017, when BC tallied 96 points in a home win over Syracuse.
- It ties as the highest single-game scoring total of the Earl Grant era and tied for the most points in a regulation Division I game under Grant as a head coach (95 pts at CofC vs. Hofstra - Feb. 14, 2019)
- In nine-plus seasons between College of Charleston and Boston College, Earl Grant-coached teams are 45-6 when they score at least 80 points, 23-3 when they score at least 85, and 8-2 when scoring 90 or more.
- Since 1981, Boston College is 316-57 when it scores at least 80 points in a game.
BOSTON'S NEW BIG THREE FOUR
- Quinten Post (16.9 ppg), Claudell Harris Jr. (15.0), Jaeden Zackery (12.2), and Devin McGlockton (10.1) account for over 68% of BC's scoring. Through 17 games, the trio is averaging nearly 55 of BC's 79 points per outing.
- The four account for over 55% of BC's rebounds, 70% of assists, 80% of blocks, 60% of steals, and 63% of 3-pointers made.
- In ACC games, the quartet accounts for nearly 80% of the Eagles' scoring output.
