Second Half Surge Drives BC Past Notre Dame

Jaeden Zackery leads the way for the Eagles with 20 points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College defeated Notre Dame, 63-59, on Monday night at Conte Forum. The Eagles improved to 11-6 on the season and 2-4 in ACC play. Junior Jaeden Zackery led the way for the Eagles, finishing with 20 points and tying a career-high eight made field goals. Graduate student Quinten Post tacked on 17 points. Post connected on three clutch three-point baskets in the final five minutes of the game, giving the Eagles a late cushion. In tonight's win, Head Coach Earl Grant earned his 40th win at Boston College and his 166th win as a collegiate head coach.

FIRST HALF:
â—Ź Devin McGlockton entered the scoring column first for the Eagles with a corner triple at the 17:36 mark. The Eagles missed six of their first seven shots from the floor.
â—Ź With 12 minutes left in the half, Mason Madsen scored on back-to-back possessions to put the Eagles ahead. Notre Dame answered with a 6-0 scoring run. BC trailed 16-12.
â—Ź The Eagles had a hot start from three-point territory, knocking down three of their first five attempts.
â—Ź At the 3:34 mark, the Fighting Irish completed a 15-2 run. The Eagles were held scoreless for over three minutes during Notre Dame's offensive surge. Notre Dame gained a double-digit lead, 31-19.
â—Ź Madsen buried a three-pointer as time expired in the first half.
â—Ź The Fighting Irish led by seven at halftime, 36-29.
â—Ź Zackery (12 points) and Notre Dame's Markus Burton (15 points) each notched double figures before halftime.
â—Ź Boston College shot 10-30 (33.3%) from the field, 4-8 (50.0%) from three-point range and 5-5 (100%) from the free throw line in the first half.
â—Ź Notre Dame shot 14-27 (51.9%) from the field, 6-12 (50.0%) from three-point range and 2-6 (33.3%) from the free throw line in the first half.
SECOND HALF:
â—Ź The Eagles opened the second half on an 8-0 run to regain the lead. Notre Dame did not score for nearly four minutes to start the half.
â—Ź There were seven lead changes within the first eight minutes of the half, with the teams repeatedly trading baskets.
â—Ź Midway through the half, Notre Dame went another four minutes without scoring, allowing BC to build a five-point lead (47-42).
â—Ź With five minutes remaining, Post knocked down a three-pointer from the top of the key to halt a Notre Dame run. Post added another triple at the 3:39 mark, capping off an eight-point eruption for the Eagles. BC led 57-55.
â—Ź The game was knotted at 57 heading into the final minute of action. Neither team had scored in over two minutes.
â—Ź At the 0:47 mark, Post drained yet another timely three-pointer to put the Eagles back on top. Notre Dame missed a potential go-ahead three-pointer with 0:11 left.
â—Ź Boston College shot 11-26 (42.3%) from the field, 3-10 (30.0%) from three-point range and 9-13 (69.2%) from the free throw line in the second half.
â—Ź Notre Dame shot 7-24 (29.2%) from the field, 2-8 (25.0%) from three-point range and 7-9 (77.8%) from the free throw line in the second half.
HIGHLIGHTS:
â—Ź Boston College finished 21-56 (37.5%) from the field, 7-18 (38.9%) from three-point range and 14-18 (77.8%) from the free throw line.
â—Ź Notre Dame finished 7-24 (29.2%) from the field, 2-8 (25.0%) from three-point range and 7-9 (77.8%) from the free throw line.
â—Ź Zackery (20) and Post (17) were the only two players to finish in double figures for the Eagles.
â—Ź Zackery tied his career high in made field goals, connecting on eight shots in a game for the fourth time this season.
â—Ź McGlockton, second on the team in rebounding, finished with a team-high eight boards.
â—Ź Markus Burton finished with a team-high 19 points for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame's Carey Booth had a game-high 13 rebounds. Three Notre Dame players finished with 10+ boards.
â—Ź Notre Dame out-rebounded the Eagles by 16, a margin of 44-28.
â—Ź There were 17 lead changes in the game.
NOTES:
â—Ź Boston College is 16-27 all-time versus Notre Dame, including an 11-11 mark at home and 6-15 mark in ACC play.
â—Ź The Eagles have now won three consecutive games versus Notre Dame for the first time in 27 years, as well as four consecutive home matchups.
â—Ź BC improved to 7-2 at home, 2-3 in January, 9-2 in night games and 8-4 in weekday games.
â—Ź Boston College is 11-10 overall and 4-1 in ACC play all-time in games played on January 15.
â—Ź McGlockton finished with a game-high two blocks. Boston College is 20- when he blocks at least one shot and 10-2 when he blocks at least two shots.
â—Ź The Eagles are now 5-5 when trailing at halftime and 2-1 in games decided by five points or less this season.
â—Ź Notre Dame's 59 points are the fewest allowed by Boston College in a game this season.
â—Ź Coach Grant earned his 40th win at Boston College and his 166th win as a collegiate head coach.

â—Ź The Eagles will remain home and take on the No. 4/3 North Carolina Tar Heels (13-3, 5-0 ACC) on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is set for 2:15 p.m. at Conte Forum. The game will be
televised on The CW.
â—Ź North Carolina holds a 22-6 overall advantage over the Eagles. The Tar Heels won both matchups last season, including an 85-61 triumph in the Second Round of the ACC Tournament.
â—Ź Boston College holds a 70-260 all-time record versus ranked opponents. The team's last win over a top-five opponent came on Dec. 9, 2017, when the Eagles upset then-No. 1/1 Duke at home, 89-84.
