Boston College will visit three cities - Rome, Florence, and Barcelona - and play three exhibition games
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College men's basketball team will be traveling to Europe in August, visiting Italy and Spain from August 3-13. The Eagles will play three exhibition games while immersing themselves in some once-in-a-lifetime cultural experiences.
"This trip will provide a tremendous opportunity for our players and program," said the Clement and Elizabeth Izzi Family Head Coach Earl Grant. Â "We are excited to be able to combine basketball with an incredible learning experience. Â It's a great chance to be immersed in a wide variety of educational experiences, while visiting some of the world's most historical landmarks in three major capitals of culture."
BC will begin the trip in Rome, visiting historic sites such as the Colosseum and Forum, and Vatican City - including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica - before heading to Florence. One of the artistic capitals of the world, the Eagles will tour Florence's Accademia Gallery, home of Michelangelo's statue of David. The trip will conclude in Barcelona, visiting La Sagrada Famillia - the largest unfinished Catholic cathedral in the world.
As part of the trip, the Eagles are permitted to hold 10 official practice days in addition to NCAA-permissible summer workouts - a tremendous opportunity for the 2023-24 roster to get an early start on the upcoming season.
"I'm really excited for the trip. Â It gives us a chance to learn our concepts and team actions early on in the summer and then get to see them in real time against real competition," sophomore Prince Aligbe said. Â "It's also a nice getaway - the team gets to be with each other, have fun, and I'm looking forward to being a tourist. I can't wait to see all the different city views, museums, ancient sites, and experience all the history there."
Boston College returns four starters and eight contributors, while welcoming four newcomers to a team that won 16 games - including nine in ACC play - a season ago.Â
It is the first foreign tour for the Eagles since 2018, when the team spent a week in the Bahamas.
