Eagles to face Alabama tonight at 9 p.m. eastern
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The two-seed Boston College Eagles (37-19) eliminated Troy and advanced to the Tuscaloosa Regional Final against Alabama with a 4-1 win over the Trojans on Saturday afternoon.Â
Barry Walsh opened the scoring in the first at-bat of the game, hitting a lead-off solo shot to right field for his second home-run of the weekend.Â
John West got the start for the Eagles and delivered a strong outing after his Friday start was cut short due to a rain delay. West threw 4.1 scoreless innings, striking out five while allowing just four hits. Eric Schroeder took over, inheriting a one-out, bases-loaded situation in the fourth. The sophomore rose to the occasion, setting down the third and fourth hitters in the Trojans' order to escape the jam and preserve the lead.Â
Boston College added three in the eighth, started by consecutive walks issued to Daniel Baruch and Barry Walsh. Baruch scored on a throwing error from the pitcher. Peter Burns and Patrick Roche both reached via fielders-choice, and both came around to score via heads-up baserunning tactics, and a perfect slide from Patrick Roche at home.Â
Schroeder escaped another bases-loaded jam in the eighth, this time courtesy of a tailor-made double play spin from Vince Cimini to Sam McNulty.Â
Schroeder finished the game for the Eagles, ending with 4 strikeouts and just 4 hits, allowing just one run and picking up the win (6-4).Â
