Baseball Rallies Late, Drops Game One

No. 9 Boston College falls in series opener, 6-4
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 9 Boston College baseball team lost its series opener to No. 17 Louisville, 6-4, at Jim Patterson Stadium on Thursday night. The Eagles dropped to 21-7 overall and 8-5 in the ACC, while the Cardinals improved to 22-7 and 5-5.

The first 10 hits of the game were all singles for Louisville, which built a 5-1 lead through five innings; chasing BC graduate right-hander Henry Leake (Burbank, Calif.) in the fifth. The Eagles scored first in the first and Cardinals tied the game in the second. Leake limited Louisville to a single run in the second and third with a pair of inning-ending double plays, but the Cardinals broke the game open with a three-run fourth.

RHP Ryan Hawks (5-1) limited BC to one run on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in eight innings of work. Leake (3-3) allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Three Cardinal batters collected a pair of hits, including center fielder Eddie King Jr., who went 2-for-4 with two RBI-singles. Junior first baseman Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) drove in the lone Eagle run of the night in a 3-for-4 performance, including a double.
