Eagles Even Series Behind Pair of Home Runs
April 01, 2023 | Baseball
Cimini and Honeyman go deep in support of Flynn.
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The No. 13 Boston College baseball team evened its weekend series against Georgia Tech with a 3-1 win at the Harrington Athletics Village on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 19-6 overall and 7-4 in the ACC, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 17-10 and 6-5.
Â
Senior shortstop Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) and junior right fielder Travis Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) each homered to get graduate right-hander Chris Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) back in the win column.
Â
Flynn (6-1) tossed six innings of one-run ball, surrendering the lone run in his final inning of work. He struck out nine, walked three and scattered six hits.
Â
BC grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third on a leadoff-home run by Cimini pulled to left against Georgia Tech's five-hitting starting pitcher Jackson Finley (1-3). Cimini later singled in the fifth and was replaced on the bases by senior center fielder Barry Walsh (Sterling, Mass.) due to a force out, fielder's choice. Honeyman then hammered a two-run home run on the first pitch of the next at-bat to make it 3-0 Eagles.
Â
The Boston College bullpen was near-perfect for the second day in a row; totaling eight-shutout innings in the series. Junior RHP Joey Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) held the Jackets to two hits and a walk in 1.2 innings of work. Graduate RHP Andrew Roman (Monson, Mass.) then came on for a perfect 1.1 innings to earn his sixth save of the season.
