CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team fell to Louisville in the home finale, 62-52, on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum.Â
The Eagles are 14-16 on the season and 4-13 in the ACC. Louisville moves to 20-9 and 11-5 in the league.Â
Taina Mair wrapped her week with another solid performance, scoring a game-high 20 points and dished out seven assists. She shot 7-of-16 from the field and grabbed four boards with two steals.Â
The Eagles struggled early as Louisville jumped out to a 10-3 lead before BC sliced the gap to 14-10 going into the second period.Â
Louisville slowly stretched its lead to ten late in the first half until a 6-2 run started by Mair helped the Eagles to bring the deficit to six going into the break.Â
The run continued in the third quarter when BC put together a 13-0 run to start the half, giving the hosts a 39-32 lead after pair of free throws from Mair. The freshman, along with T'Yana Todd and JoJo Lacey, scored all 13 points and shot 5-of-6 from the field during the surge, while the defense forced UofL to miss 12 straight shots.
BC held the Cardinal offense to just eight points in the third en route to a 44-40 advantage heading into the fourth frame.Â
UofL reclaimed the lead midway through the fourth quarter when Hailey Van Lith hit back-to-back layups that gave the Cardinals a 50-46 lead. Todd and Maria Gakdeng answered with baskets of their own to tie up the contest.Â
However, six straight points and a 3:17 scoring drought by BC led to Louisville pulling away for the win.Â
BC pulled down 17 offensive rebounds but scored just eight second-chance points compared to UofL's 23 rebounds and 22 second chance points.Â
The Eagles will have Thursday off before ending the regular season next Sunday against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.Â
