
Eagles End Regular Season with Win at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Â Â The Boston College women's basketball team heads into the ACC Tournament with momentum after a 73-63 triumph at Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon in LJVM Coliseum.
BC ends the regular season with a 15-16 mark and 5-13 record in the ACC. Wake Forest falls to 14-15 and 4-14 in the league.Â
Maria Gakdeng netted a career-high 22 points on an efficient 8-of-10 shooting from the field with six rebounds, tied a personal best with four assists and blocked four shots. The sophomore scored 19 of her points in the second half and hit all seven shots attempts.Â
Andrea Daley tied a career high with 18 points (10 in the second half) and was one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds. Ally VanTimmeren rounded out the leading scorers with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting and five boards
The Eagles shot a season-high 59.1 percent from the field and 65.7 percent from inside the arc.Â
It was a back-and-forth affair in the second half after BC trailed in the first half by as much as 14. The Eagles slowly pulled away late in the final period, as Taina Mair started a 7-0 run to give the Eagles a 68-58 advantage. A layup by Daley and free throws from JoJo Lacey led to BC pulling away for good to seal the win.Â
BC faced an early deficit in the contest when Wake Forest shot over 60 percent from the field and forced the Eagles into seven turnovers, holding a 26-13 edge going into the second period.Â
The Eagles responded emphatically in the second period, limiting the Demon Deacons to just six points on 18 percent shooting from the floor and scored the first 13 points of the second to tie up the game.Â
Daley and Mair made back-to-back baskets to give the Eagles their first lead of the game. After WF reclaimed the lead, 32-30, Lacey nailed a trifecta to help BC go into the break with the lead.Â
BC defensively held Wake Forest to 11-of-40 shooting after WF started the game 11-from-16. The Eagles dominated the glass with a 36-19 edge on the glass and 40 points in the paint.Â
The Eagles will officially wait for its opponent for the Ally 2023 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament. BC is slated to be the 11th seed and face No. 14 seed Georgia Tech.Â
