The Eagles scored seven more runs in the inning, including two-run singles by senior shortstop Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) and freshman designated hitter Cohl Mercado (Ocean View, N.J.).
Â
Mercado went 4-for-6 with four RBI from the leadoff spot in the Boston College lineup, while Walsh drove in four runs, scored three and went 3-for-4 in the nine hole; adding a double. Cimini went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and a walk.
Â
Junior left fielder Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) added a solo home run in a two-run, two-RBI effort. Sophomore third baseman Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with three walks and three runs.
Â
Sophomore right-hander Sean Hard (Mahwah, N.J.) threw two-plus innings and gave up five runs on four hits, two walks and two hit batsmen before exiting after Pepperdine gained the lead with back-to-back home runs by first baseman Greg Mehlhaff and second baseman Ryan Johnson.
Â
Freshman RHP Bobby Chicoine (Armonk, N.Y.) was the first reliever out of the BC pen. He walked a batter, got a double play and struck out another to keep it a one-run game through three. Chicoine (1-0) ultimately got the win with three-scoreless frames as he struck out three, walked two and surrendered one hit.
