Flynn, BC Shut Out Waves to Even Series

D-III graduate transfer pitches six innings of one-hit ball.
MALIBU, Calif. – The Boston College baseball team shut out Pepperdine, 3-0, in a combined one-hitter to earn its first win of the season at Eddy D. Field Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Behind six innings of shutout ball from graduate right-hander Chris Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.), the Eagles evened their record at 1-1.

Flynn, a transfer from Division III Roger Williams, was staked to a 3-0 lead before he stepped on the mound. With a run in, junior second baseman Patrick Roche (Milton, Mass.) blasted a two-run home run to left field. Flynn then struck out three of four batters faced in the bottom half, while stranding a runner in scoring position.

In his BC debut, Flynn (1-0) struck out seven batters to just one walk and gave up just one hit. Right-hander Tommy Scavone (0-1) took the loss for the Waves in 3.1 innings. He gave up three runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Junior right fielder Travis Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a double, while junior first baseman Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) added a 1-for-3 game with a run, RBI and walk.

Junior right-hander John West (Shrewsbury, Mass.) locked down a three-inning save. He struck out three and walked one.
