
Eagles Down Holy Cross in Season Opener

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball upended Holy Cross in a 66-61 victory in the season opener on Monday evening inside Conte Forum.
The Eagles are 1-0 to start the season, improving to 6-0 under coach Mac and have won their last seven season openers. Holy Cross is 0-1 after tonight.
Andrea Daley turned in a career-high 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting and went 8-for-8 from the line. The junior guard added eight rebounds and four assists. Dontavia Waggoner poured in 18 points with six boards and five steals. The duo combined for 41 points, with both scoring eight of their 12 second-half points in the final quarter.
JoJo Lacey led the team with nine rebounds on top of five points and three helpers. Kaylah Ivey tied a team best with four assists in her first game back from injury.
Trailing by as much as eight in the third quarter, the Eagles climbed back to cut the lead in half going into the fourth, 49-45. An 8-0 surge to start the period capped off by a JaKayla Thompson jumper gave the Eagles a four point lead.
Boston College held onto the lead despite Holy Cross staying on its heels. The hosts iced the game at the line, scoring their last five points at the charity stripe. The defense forced HC to miss five of its previous eight shot attempts and forced five turnovers in the frame.
Neither team shot over 38 percent in the first half, leading to a low-scoring affair. Holy Cross led for majority of the opening two periods. After Boston College claimed a 22-20 advantage, the Crusaders scored eight straight points to take the lead. Teya Sidberry's free throws at the end of the half sliced a seven-point deficit to five going into the locker room.
BC forced 20 turnovers for 17 points, while scoring 21 second-chance points. The Eagles also held a 13-7 edge in bench points, with nine of the 10 players who saw action scored. Lili Krasovec blocked a game-high three shots and T'Yana Todd led the team with a pair of 3-pointers.
The Eagles have a quick turnaround on Thursday against Harvard at 6 p.m. in Conte Forum on ACC Network.
