Eagles' 7-footer one of five players nationally to be honored for outstanding play
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Quinten Post added to his list of weekly accolades, earning one of five U.S. Basketball Writers Association Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week awards. The standout 7-footer joins four other outstanding players on this week's list: Hunter Dickinson (Kansas), Jaedon LeDee (San Diego State), Kyle Rode (Liberty), and Marcus Tsohonis (Long Beach State).
Post - who was named ACC Player of the Week on Nov. 20 - averaged 18.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 blocked shots - including two double-doubles - in a 2-0 week for the Eagles.
For the 2023-24 season, the USBWA has expanded its national player of the week program that has been affiliated with the Oscar Robertson Trophy since the 2009-10 season. In past seasons, the USBWA has recognized just one player each week. Each Tuesday during the regular season, designated USBWA board members will select five standouts from the 32 Division I conference players of the week to be recognized.
This past week, the graduate student had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-best five assists in a win over Richmond on Nov. 15. He followed that up with another historic performance in the win over Harvard this past Saturday, registering 20 points and set new career-highs with 19 rebounds and five blocked shots. He also added two assists and a steal. Since 1996-97, only two other players in the ACC have posted similar stat lines: Shelden Williams (Duke) Williams had 21 points, 19 rebounds, five blocks, three assists, and two steals on Dec. 4, 2005 against Virginia Tech and ; Tim Duncan (Wake Forest) posted 22 points, 22 boards, five blocks, and two assists in a win over Saint Mary's on March 14, 1997.
BC is 4-0 this season - the best start since 2007-08 - and Post has logged three double-doubles in four starts. Post is averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 3.0 blocked shots per game. He is the only player in the country posting that stat line. Post is connecting on better than 55% from the floor, 50% from 3-point land, and 83% from the charity stripe. Last year, he registered the first 50/40/80 shooting percentage line in a decade. Post connected on 53.9% from the floor, 42.6% from the perimeter, and 86.0% from the free throw line in 2022-23. The last player to post those percentages for an entire season (min. 15.0 ppg) was Creighton's Doug McDermott in 2012-13.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 22 when they take on Colorado State in the opening game of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Classic at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. ET and the game will air live on CBS Sports Network.
