Kye Robichaux registers his second straight 100+ yard rushing game in the win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College won its fourth consecutive game, taking down Connecticut, 21-14, on Homecoming Weekend at Alumni Stadium. With the win, the Eagles move to 5-3 overall on the season.
Thomas Castellanos was 16-of-24 for 151 yards, finishing with one touchdown and one interception. He rushed 14 times for 45 yards. Â
Kye Robichaux registered 112 yards on the grounds on 23 carries, including two touchdowns. It is his second straight game with at least 100 yards rushing. Alex Broome carried the ball 15 times for 80 yards, while making two catches for nine yards and a touchdown. Â
Jaedn Skeete had his finest game of his inaugural college season, hauling in four passes for a team-high 61 yards. Joe Griffin made four catches for 45 yards, while Dino Tomlin collected three passes for 22 yards. BC dominated the time of possession on the day, 36:53 to 14:07.
UConn got the scoring going, capitalizing on a turnover by BC on its first drive. The Huskies found the end zone from one-yard out with 4:26 to go in the first quarter.
The Eagles would respond with a touchdown on their next drive, as Robichaux rushed five yards for the score, capping a 10-play, 75-yard drive with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first. Â
Castellanos found Alex Broome on a 6-yard swing play with 6:26 left in the opening half, giving BC a 14-7 lead. Broome accounted for 40 of the 66 yards gained on the scoring drive. BC came up empty on two drives in Huskies territory late in the second and took the one-touchdown lead into the locker room at the break.
BC would make it a two-score game in the closing minute of the third quarter, as Robichaux hit paydirt for the second time this afternoon. He blasted up the middle from 13 yards out, to make it 21-7 with 40 seconds left in the period.
UConn would not go away. The Huskies cut it to 21-14 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, but that was as close as they would get. After a missed field goal by UConn from 54 yards with 6:44 left, Boston College bled the clock on its final drive, finishing with a knee in victory formation.
Vinny DePalma led BC with five tackles, while four Eagles - Donovan Ezeiruaku, Sione Hala, Cole Batson, and John Pupel each registered four tackles apiece.
Boston College heads to Syracuse for a Friday night ACC tilt on Nov. 3. Kickoff at the JMA Wireless (formerly Carrier) Dome is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will air live nationally on ESPN2. The game will also be streamed on WatchESPN.
