October 20, 2023 | Field Hockey
Eagles Improve to 11-5 on the Season and 2-3 in Conference Play
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 12 Eagles (11-5, 2-3 ACC) secured their first overtime win of the season to end its final road stint of the regular season against the Demon Deacons (6-8, 0-5 ACC), prevailing 3-2 on Friday evening.
Both offenses came out of the gates struggling to find a rhythm following an 80-minute weather delay, as both teams failed to break the ice in the first period of action. Kara Heck struck first for Boston College, scoring an unassisted goal with only 1:05 left in the first half.
The Eagles would enter a back-and-forth affair in the second half, as Wake Forest knotted the game at one goal apiece just 37 seconds into the third quarter. Freshman Madelieve Drion would step up and answer with her second goal of the season, finishing the offensive possession following a Demon Deacon save. Once again, Wake Forest would refuse to go away, finding their second equalizer of the match with 10:56 left in regulation. Despite creating some high-quality chances, BC was unable to pull ahead before the fourth quarter horn sounded.
Over seven minutes into the first period of extra time, graduate forward Margo Carlin would execute yet again for the Eagles in the clutch. The captain netted her 12th goal of the 2023 campaign, rifling a shot past the Wake Forest keeper to take a 3-2 overtime victory.
The Eagles have now won four games in a row, improving to 11-5 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.
