No. 4 Eagles Host Long Island in Home Opener Friday Night

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College begins a six-game homestand at Kelley Rink on Friday night with its home opener against Long Island, the first-ever meeting between the programs. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ and WEEI 850 AM. Tickets are available at BCEagles.com or by calling 617-552-GoBC.
PRE-GAME HOCKEY HOUR
• Join other BC fans before the game for hospitality from 5:30-6:45 p.m.
• Admission is free and open to the general public; food and beverage will be available for purchase
• The event is located in the south endzone of Alumni Stadium
• Fans can enter the stadium through Gate A or Gate D
SETTING THE SCENE
• The Eagles are 1-0-0 after a 2-1 overtime victory over defending national champion Quinnipiac on Saturday night
• LIU is 0-2-0 following losses to Penn State and Holy Cross
• BC has added 14 newcomers to a roster of 27 players, including 11 freshmen and three graduate transfers
• Represented among the newcomers are seven forwards, four defensemen, three goalies
OPENING VICTORY
• Sophomore Cutter Gauthier snapped a shot high glove side with 9.5 seconds left in overtime last Saturday, lifting No. 6 Boston College past defending national champion and second-ranked Quinnipiac 2-1 in the season opener for both teams at M&T Bank Arena
• Sophomore Andre Gasseau registered his third career shorthanded goal in the first period, while rookie netminder Jacob Fowler stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced in his NCAA debut
• Boston College's penalty kill was a perfect 7-for-7 on the night and blocked 13 Bobcat shots
• On Monday, Gauthier (Player of the Week) and Fowler (Goaltender of the Week) were honored with weekly awards from Hockey East for their performances
NEW LEADERS ANNOUNCED
• Senior defenseman Eamon Powell has been elected to serve as captain this season
• Senior Gentry Shamburger was elected as an assistant captain, while graduate Jack Malone and junior Mike Posma were recently added as assistant captains just prior to the season
• It marks the second straight season that a defenseman will wear the 'C' for the Eagles as Powell takes over the captaincy from Marshall Warren
• Powell nearly doubled his career point total as a junior last season with five goals and 17 assists for 22 points, eclipsing his previous career-high of 14 points as a freshman
EAGLES IN THE NHL
• A total of 16 former Boston College men's hockey players earned a spot on NHL Opening Night rosters as the 2023-24 season began this week
• Skating for new teams this season are Patrick Brown (Boston), Brian Dumoulin (Seattle), Kevin Hayes (St. Louis), Alex Newhook (Montreal) and Miles Wood (Colorado)
• Boston College led Hockey East and ranked second among Division I schools behind only Minnesota with 25 former players who reached the NHL level last season
• The Eagles also had the most 30-goal scorers of any program with three in Matt Boldy (Minnesota), Chris Kreider (NY Rangers) and Alex Tuch (Buffalo)
• BC ranks second all-time with 21 names on the Stanley Cup and third all-time with 25 first round draft picks, leading Hockey East in both categories
