October 10, 2023 | Men's Soccer
NEWTON, Mass. – A penalty kick in the 23rd minute proved to be the difference on Tuesday night in a 1-0 shutout victory for Yale over Boston College in non-conference action at the Newton Soccer Complex.
The Bulldogs extended their unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2) and improved to 6-3-2 overall, while the Eagles fell to 3-5-4 (0-3-2 ACC).
Yale was awarded a penalty a quarter of the way through the match and TJ Presthus converted by ripping a right-footed shot off the left post and into the net. The Bulldogs had the early edge in shots and pressure, carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Eagles mounted some momentum in the second half and out-shot Yale 8-4 after the break. Rookie defender Moritz Gundelach nearly equalized inside the final two minutes as a ball fell to him at the edge of the six-yard box, but his effort was saved by Chris Edwards.
Freshmen Xavier O'Neil, Marco Dos Santos and Jack Burkhardt all had two shot attempts, while junior Drew Serafino added a pair. Brennan Klein finished with two saves in the Boston College net.
BC returns to ACC play on Friday night with a trip to face Louisville at 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
