
Eagles Downed at Miami

MIAMI - Boston College women's basketball fell to Miami, 86-65, on Thursday evening inside the Watsco Center.
BC falls to 13-10 and 3-7 in the ACC, while the 'Canes are 13-7 and 6-3 in the league.
JoJo Lacey registered her first-career double-double with a team-high 16 points and tied a personal best with 10 boards. Lacey hit four of her six shots from beyond the arc.
Maria Gakdeng netted 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and Taina Mair scored 11 with seven assists and six off the glass. T'Yana Todd rounded out the scoring leaders with 10 points.
The Eagles got off to a hot start on offense, hitting its first four field goals from 3-point land to jump out to a 14-2 lead. Lacey led the charge by draining three of the trifectas and scoring nine points in the frame. BC shot 57.1 percent from the field en route to its highest scoring quarter of the season and a 26-18 lead.
Despite Miami cutting into the lead, the Eagles were able to stay in front during the second quarter. The Hurricanes brought the lead down to one possession before Ally VanTimmeren hit a layup with under a minute left in the second quarter to send BC into the half with a 41-37 edge.
Andrea Daley started the second half with a jumper to give the visitors a six-point lead, but Miami went on a run in which it made 10 of its next 13 shots over the final 7:05 of the third. The Hurricanes scored 31 points in the period to go into the final frame with a 10-point lead.
Miami pulled away for the win in the final period, never allowing the Eagles to get within single digits. The Hurricanes took advantage of the Eagles' miscues for 24 points and scored 18 second-chance points.
Boston College returns home on Sunday to face Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. in Conte Forum.
