Six Score in Double Figures
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -Â A balanced effort on offense and a dominant second half led Boston College to a 74-60 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon inside Conte Forum.Â
The Eagles snapped their five-game skid to improve to 14-10 and 4-7 in ACC play, while the Panthers fell to 7-14 and 0-10 in the league.
A season-high six players scored in double figures, with Ally VanTimmeren tying a career-high off the bench with 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field. T'Yana Todd scored all 12 of her points in the second half.Â
Maria Gakdeng netted 12 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Andrea Daley registered her second double-double of the season with 10 points, 12 rebounds and tallied a career-high four steals.Â
Taina Mair and JoJo Lacey rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points apiece, while Mair led the way with nine assists. Lacey dished out a personal-high six assists with five boards. The duo of Mair and Lacey combined for 20 points, 15 assists, and just five turnovers. The 21 assists are a season-high on 30 made field goals.
After a low-scoring first half, the offense for BC exploded in the final two periods with 48 points, shot an impressive 63.3 percent from the field, and hit all eight 3-pointers (8-13) in the third and fourth periods.Â
Boston College tied a season high in trifectas made and the 52.6 percent shooting is the highest clip in conference play.Â
Following a 26-26 first half, Daley and Lacey started an 8-0 before Pitt climbed back to within three thanks to five quick points. Mair ignited another eight straight points capped off by a Kayla Lezama trifecta to give BC a double-digit lead.Â
The Eagles stayed in control the rest of the way for their fourth straight win over Pitt in the series, stretching the lead to as much as 19Â in the fourth frame after a layup from VanTimmeren.Â
Neither team held a lead by more than four points in what was a defensive battle in the first half. BC came back from an early 8-4 deficit to eventually take a 15-13 edge going into the second period thanks to consecutive baskets by Gakdeng.Â
It was a back-and-forth affair in the second period, leading to the tie at the break.Â
Boston College returns to action on Thursday when a ranked Notre Dame comes to town for a 7 p.m. battle.Â
