Charleston Leads Eagles in Slalom at EISA Bates Carnival

NEWRY, Maine – Boston College skiing began the 2023 EISA alpine season over the weekend at the Bates Carnival at Sunday River. Junior Ben Charleston had the highest finish for the Eagles with 16th overall in the men's slalom on Saturday.

Charleston's second run ranked top-10 in the field to move him up into the top-20 finishers. Three other Eagles earned top-30 slalom finishes: graduate student Spencer Smith (24th), junior Matt Smallhouse (26th) and freshman Ryan Bianchi (27th). BC has the seventh-highest team point total (59) in men's slalom.Â

Sophomore Lauren Hunter led the women's team with 29th place in the slalom, which was moved from Friday to Saturday due to weather. Freshmen Jasmine Whittaker (33rd) and Elizabeth Sullivan (34th) also scored for BC in slalom.

Sophomore Chiara Maria Ferrari was the top women's finisher on the weekend as the 2022 NCAA participant took 23rd in Thursday's giant slalom, while Hunter registered 35th place. Senior captain Will Kornya (33rd) and Charleston (38th) led the men in giant slalom.

Next weekend's St. Michael's Carnival at Smuggler's Notch has been rescheduled to the weekend of Feb. 3-4. BC returns to action in two weeks at the UNH Carnival at Cannon Mountain on Jan. 27-28.
