Boston College moves to 5-0 with second win of Bryant Invitational
Smithfield, R.I – Boston College beat Harvard 3-0 on Saturday. The Eagles won by scores of 26-24, 25-17, and 27-25.
Senior right side hitter Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) led the way for BC with nine kills, while Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont) was an important contributor for the offense with eight kills of her own. Pollock posted a .333 hitting percentage and Clavenna added three blocks and six digs to help lock down the defense for the Eagles.
Junior setter Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif) once again was the catalyst for the Boston College offense with a team-high 19 assists, while also adding seven digs as well. Junior setter Jane Petrie (San Diego, Calif) added 15 assists of her own, recording her third double digit assist game of the season.
In a very competitive set one, the Eagles were able to maintain their poise and focus throughout. As they went down 23-24, Boston College then rattled off three straight points to clinch, fueled by clutch kills from Grad transfer Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y), Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill) and Izzy Clavenna. Brennan had her season high in blocks with seven and added five kills on .375 hitting percentage as well.
After breezing by the Crimson in a lopsided 25-17 win in set two, BC played one of their best sets of the season in set three. The two sides went back and forth to the very end as Harvard, looking to extend the match, took a 24-23 lead. But once again the Eagles showed their resiliency scoring four points in five serves to clinch the set and the match at 27-25.
The Eagles take on Bryant at 7 p.m on Saturday as they look to start the season 6-0.
