Boston College heads to Bryant Invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass -- After a 3-0 weekend at The Bearcat Classic, Boston College volleyball will be looking to continue its momentum at the Bryant Invitational held on the campus of Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.

The Eagles so far...
BC began its season last weekend in Vestal, N.Y for the Bearcat Classic with matchups against Siena, Binghamton, and Maryland Eastern Shore. BC swept both Siena and Binghamton, 3-0 and downed UMES in four sets, 3-1. Graduate transfer from UNLV, middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y.) looked to be already settled in with her new team as she was named Bearcat Classic Tournament MVP. Brennan, who played all 10 possible sets for the Eagles, racked up 21 total kills on a .500 hitting percentage, 11 total blocks, five digs and five aces as she will look to continue her hot start this upcoming weekend. Speaking of hot starts, senior right side hitter Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) totaled a team leading 28 kills and .423 hitting percentage, 10 digs, and five blocks as she was named to the Bearcat Classic All-Tournament Team. Junior setter Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) has been the catalyst for the Eagles offense so far as she has dished out a team leading 68 assists, playing in all 10 possible sets and Sophomore middle blocker Julia Haggerty (Lafayette, Calif.) has been a huge defensive presence for the Eagles with a team leading 12 blocks in only seven sets played. Junior libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) has been a key defensive contributor as well with a team-leading 40 digs.

Last time in Smithfield...
The Eagles are making their second straight appearance at the Bryant Invitational as they were participants in the event at this time last year as well. In 2021, BC managed a very successful outing in Smithfield, going 3-0 on the weekend with wins against Holy Cross. Brown and Bryant. Boston College won against Holy Cross in a 3-0 set sweep and defeated both Brown and Bryant in four sets each.

The Matchups:
vs Montana State...
Friday's match will be the first for Boston College against Montana State. The Bobcats have begun their 2022 season 0-3 with losses against San Francisco, Grand Canyon, and St. Thomas as they hosted the three teams for the Bobcat Classic.

vs Harvard...
Boston College's history in volleyball with Harvard is as long as almost any program, The Eagles have faced The Crimson a total of 30 times, the only schools BC volleyball has faced more is Syracuse and Northeastern, both at 31 times. In 30 games against Harvard, BC holds a 19-11 record with a 3-2 win most recently on September 18, 2019.

vs Bryant...
Saturday's match will be the fifth match between the Eagles and the Bulldogs. BC holds a 3-1 total record in the matchup's history with a 3-0 win most recently on September 20, 2019.
