
Eagles Sweep in Bryant Invitational Opener

BC downs Montana State, moves to 4-0 on season
Smithfield, R.I – Boston College beat Montana State 3-0 on Friday evening. The Eagles won by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-23.
Grad transfer middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y) powered the Eagles attack with a team-high 12 kills, while Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree added 11 kills of her own. Brennan posted an impressive .857 hitting percentage and recorded seven digs as well and Crabtree recorded seven digs as well to fuel the BC's defense.
Junior setter Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif) dished out a team-high 24 assists and added 7 digs and Junior setter Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif) recorded 12 assists of her own. Penn has managed more then 20 assists in all four of BC's matches so far while Lambros managed her second double digit assist match of the season.
In set one the Bobcats raced out to a quick 8-4 lead but after a five point in seven serves run, the Eagles managed to tie the set at 12 a piece. Then after clutch kills from Kate Brennan and Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St.Catharines, Ont) to fuel another five point in six serves run for BC, the Eagles were able to take control of the set.
In set two, the two sides went back and forth until Boston College rattled off five straight points to finally shift the momentum in their favor, highlighted by clutch kills and a block from Senior right side hitter Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas).
In set three, Montana State jumped out to another quick lead, this time 6-2 but the Eagles once again refused to quit as BC rattled off six unanswered points with kills from Crabtree, Clavenna and an ace from Grace Penn. Boston College was able to take control from there to complete the 3-0 sweep.
BC will be back in action on Saturday for Day 2 of the Bryant Invitational with matches against Harvard at 4PM and Bryant at 7pm.
