Eagles Hold Off Bryant In Five Set Thriller
September 28, 2022 | Volleyball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College defeated Bryant on Wednesday evening, the Eagles won by scores of 25-10, 25-13, and 15-11.Â
Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill) and Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont) paced the BC offense tonight with 11 kills each. Pollock also made her presence known defensively adding four blocks and two digs as well.Â
In set one, the Eagles raced out to a very quick 8-1 lead and seemed to never look back in the set as they then went on another 6-0 run to make it 15-2 behind some big kills from Junior outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif) and Jenna Pollock and blocks from Sophomore middle blocker Julia Haggerty.Â
In set two after a bit of a back and forth set at 10-9, the Eagles rattled off an 8-1 run with more huge plays from Alayna Crabtree and Julia Haggerty. Haggerty, who finished with a team-high seven blocks was an enforcer in the middle as well. BC went on to cruise to a set two win with two big kills from Freshman middle blocker Anna Herrington (Orlando, Fla) to help close it out.Â
After falling to the Bulldogs in set three, set four looked to be anybodies for the taking however Bryant showed some impressive mental fortitude to come back down from 2-0 to force a fifth and final set. Bryant's Alysa Wright was a standout performer in this one with nine kills and nine blocks.Â
In a down to the wire set five, the Eagles managed to weather the storm that was Bryant's comeback behind a 5-1 run to close it out with some absolutely huge plays from Graduate middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y). It felt like Brennan made so many of the clutch plays for the Eagles tonight as she went for nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage, five blocks, two digs and an assist.Â
Boston College will head out for another road trip this weekend with matches against Virginia Tech on Friday and Wake Forest on Sunday.Â
