Eagles Will Host Northwestern on Sunday
NEWTON, Mass. -- The No. 14 Boston College Eagles (1-2, 0-0) fell to the No. 4 Maryland Terrapins (3-0, 0-0) on Friday night, dropping their opening game of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge by a score of 3-1.Â
Peyton Hale opened the scoring for BC moments after Maryland went up 1-0, lining up a shot off a corner feed from Margo Carlin and Juliette Hjidra. Hale's second goal of the young season came in similar fashion to her first, as the junior has emerged as a force on penalty corners. Carlin added her team-leading third assist on the score as well.
Maryland reclaimed the lead late in the second quarter to go up 2-1, and later extended it to 3-1 on a fast break in the third quarter.Â
Freshman goalkeeper Carrie Van Wiechen, who made her third straight start to begin her college career today, came through for the Eagles in the third quarter when an errant pass produced a Maryland fast break, but Van Wiechen rushed the shot and made an incredible kick save to prevent further damage.Â
The ACC/Big 10 Challenge will continue with two more games this Sunday. Duke will take on Maryland at 11:00, and Boston College will host No. 1 ranked Northwestern at 4:00. Both games will be available on ESPN+, and the late game will air on ACC Network.Â
