Boston College gets the sweep in second match of URI Invitational to move to 9-0 on the season
KINGSTON, RI – Boston College defeated Marist on Saturday afternoon 3-0, the Eagles won by scores of 25-9, 25-14 and 25-23.Â
Senior right side hitter Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) led the way for the Eagles offense with 12 kills, and added two blocks and two digs as well. Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill) had herself another productive outing as well, going for 11 kills, three digs, a block and an ace. Sophomore middle blocker Julia Haggerty (Lafayette, Calif) continues to be an important defensive presence for Boston College recording seven blocks and adding four kills on a .667 hitting percentage as well. This marks Haggerty's fourth match with five plus blocks and her second straight with seven.Â
In set one, the Eagles immediately looked to impose their will, racing out to a very quick 11-3 lead powered by an 8-0 run and back to back aces from Junior setter Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif).Â
After cruising to another win in set two, the Eagles looked to make quick work of the Red Foxes however they wouldn't go down without a fight in what was a back and forth set three. BC would eventually get the upper hand with clutch 4-0 run to make the score of the set 24-20 behind kills from Izzy Clavenna and Junior outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif) and an ace from Grad transfer middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y).Â
Boston College will be back in action today with a match at 7 p.m against Rhode Island. Â
