BC Unbeaten in URI Invitational

Eagles sweep Rhode Island on Saturday evening to go 3-0 on the weekend and 10-0 to begin the season.
KINGSTON, RI – Boston College swept Rhode Island on Saturday evening, the Eagles won by scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-22.Â
Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill) led the way for BC with 14 kills, four aces to go along with four digs and a block and was named to the URI Invitational All-Tournament Team. Junior outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif) had another very solid outing as well as she posted 10 kills and two digs. Jensen was named URI Invitational Tournament MVP, recording 48 total kills, seven total digs, and three total blocks in 11 of a possible 11 sets played in three matches. Junior libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind) was also named to the URI Invitational All-Tournament Team as she recorded 22 total digs, six assists and an ace while playing in all 11 sets in three matches for the Eagles.Â
In set one, the two sides went back and forth until after a 15-15 tie, the Eagles rattled off a 10-3 scoring run including multiple back to back kills from Alayna Crabtree and Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont).Â
After breezing by the Rams in an easy set two win, BC went down 13-6 in set three but this match proved to be a game of runs for the Eagles who once again went on a 10-3 scoring run to close out the set and the match, powered by three aces in a row from Alayna Crabtree and clutch kills from Katrina Jensen.Â
Boston College's 10-0 start to the season marks the best start in program history, the previous best was 9-0 in 2018.Â
After returning from Kingston, BC Volleyball will head to Queens, N.Y next weekend for the St. Johns Classic. The Eagles are scheduled to take on Middle Tennessee, St. Johns and Columbia.Â
