
Minutewomen, Eagles Battle to 2-2 Tie

AMHERST, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team battled the UMass Minutewomen to a 2-2 tie on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute thanks to Sam Smith's 20th career goal. UMass equalized two minutes later. After Andi Barth gave BC the lead with 15 minutes to play, the Minutewomen were able to return the game to 2-2 in the final minute of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 16' | Wiebke Willebrandt's goal kick landed near midfield and Emily Sapienza turned and sent a through ball up the middle of the field. Smith sprinted on to the ball to out-muscle the defender, take a touch past a charging goalkeeper and then finish to the far post from outside the box.
- 18' | Pedolzky sent a ball up the right flank and Lauren Bonavita was able to squeak through the defenders and beat a charging Willebrandt.
- 77' | A ball was sent to the right flank for Barth and the sophomore took it down the final third, cutting in to the box and around the defender. After her initial shot was saved, Barth followed up with a left-footed finish to the far post.
- 90' | With a ball loose inside the box, UMass was able to capitalize and Julianna Ryan poked the ball home.
- UMass held the slight 12-10 lead in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
- Goalkeeper Wiebke Willebrandt made four saves in moving to 3-1-1 on the year.
- Boston College is now 3-13-2 in the all-time series with UMass … the only other tie in the series came in 1982, also a 2-2 affair.
- Andi Barth led the Eagles with a game-high five shots.
- Sam Smith scored her 20th career goal … she now has 46 career points.
- Barth scored her second goal of the season and the second of her career.
- The Eagles will take on Boston University on Sunday afternoon, making the short trip down Commonwealth Avenue for a 4 p.m. game at Nickerson Field.
