Three-Game Road Slate Begins Thursday at UMass

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team will kick off a three-game road slate with a trip to UMass on Thursday. The game versus the Minutewomen is set for a 4 p.m. start and it will air live on ESPN+.

A WIN OVER UMASS WOULD . . .
• Give Boston College a 4-1-0 record on the year.
• Move the Eagles to 4-13-1 all-time against UMass and push BC's unbeaten streak in the series to four games.
• Give BC it's first-ever road victory against UMass.

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE
• The Eagles enter Thursday with a 3-1-0 record after topping Holy Cross, 3-0, at home on Sunday afternoon.
• Overall, six different Eagles have scored in Emily Sapienza (3), Sam Smith (2), Ella Richards, Andi Barth, Claire Mensi and Sydney Segalla while 11 total Eagles have at least one point.
• Smith has a team-leading 15 shots and seven shots on goal ... Smith has led BC in shots in each of the first three games of the season ... the captain has registered a shot attempt in 43 of 54 career games.
• Goalkeeper Wiebke Willebrandt is 3-1-0 with a 0.50 goals against average, .857 save percentage, 12 saves and two shutouts.

• The Minutewomen have opened up the 2022 season at 1-2-1, picking up a win over UAlbany in the opener (1-0) before falling to Fairfield (2-1) and Pitt (6-1) and tying Robert Morris (1-1).
• Ella Curry leads the team with two goals while Lauren Bonavita and Olivia Gouldsbury have each chipped in one score.
• Three goalkeepers have seen time for UMass, with Megan Olszewski starting all four games ... Olszewski is 1-1-1 with a 1.67 goals against average, .783 save percentage, 18 saves and one shutout.
• Jason Dowiak is in his fifth season as head coach of the Minutewomen.
• The Minutewomen were tabbed fifth in the A-10 Preseason Poll ... the team went 11-6-4 overall and 5-3-2 in league play a season ago, reaching the A-10 Championship game.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST UMASS
• Boston College and UMass have met 17 times, with the Eagles holding a record of 3-13-1 in the all-time series.
• The teams met in their respective season-openers on Aug. 22, 2019 (marking the first time the teams had met in 17 years) and then again last year in Newton, with BC picking up a 3-1 win.
• A 2-1 BC win on Aug. 22, 2019 to open up the season marked the first game and first career victory for head coach Jason Lowe ... Samantha Agresti scored in the fifth minute and then Sam Smith notched the game-winner in the 89th.
• In the first meeting between the two teams in 1981, the squads battled to a 2-2 tie ... a 1982 clash resulted in a 1-1 tie before the Minutewomen then took the next 13 meetings before BC's win in 2002.
• The Eagles and Minutewomen have clashed in at least six different locations ... BC has traveled to UMass on nine occasions, hosted four home games and then met UMass in three confirmed neutral site locations (with unconfirmed sites in 1981 and 1987 matchups).

• Boston College picked up a 3-0 win over Holy Cross on Aug. 28 to move to 3-1-0 on the season.
• Emily Sapienza, Sam Smith and Sydney Segalla scored for the Eagles.
• BC had a 21-2 lead in shots and a 12-2 lead in corner kicks in the game ... the 12 corners were the most for the Eagles in a game since the team had 12 against Louisville on Sept. 29, 2019.
• Sapienza's goal marked her third of the season, tying a career-high, while Segalla's was the first of her career.

2022 CAPTAINS
• The Eagles are captained this season by a trio of seniors in Michela Agresti, Samantha Agresti and Sam Smith.
• This is the second consecutive season that Michela Agresti is wearing an armband, while Samantha Agresti and Smith are first-year captains.
• Michela Agresti has started all 54 contests that BC has played over the last three years … the defender has led the Eagles in minutes played in each of her first three seasons.
• Samantha Agresti has played in all 54 of BC's contests over the last three seasons … as a junior, the midfielder finished fourth on the team in scoring with four goals and four assists for 12 points.
• Smith is BC's active scoring leader with 44 points on 19 goals and six assists … the forward has led BC in goals twice in her career (2019, 2020) … Smith has played in all 54 of BC's games in her first three seasons, starting 52 of them.
