Three Eagles Score As BC Tops Holy Cross

Sam Smith, Emily Sapienza and Sydney Segalla scored in a 3-0 win over the Crusaders.
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team defeated Holy Cross, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
Three different Eagles scored in the non-conference victory to move BC to 3-1-0 on the year.
Emily Sapienza opened the scoring in the fifth minute for a 1-0 lead that held until halftime. Sam Smith and Sydney Segalla then scored second half goals five minutes apart for the 3-0 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 5' | From the left flank, O'Mahony sent a cross back across the field that took a bounce in the middle of the box and out towards the right edge. Sapienza one-timed the ball back towards the far post and in.
- 82' | Just past midfield, Sophia Lowenberg sent a long ball over the top into the box, catching a running Smith in stride as she entered the box on the left. Smith chested the ball down, took a touch and then fired it to the far post.
- 87' | Andi Barth sent a cross into the box that Jessica Carlton headed down and Segalla cleaned it up with a finish to the far post.
- Boston College had the 21-2 lead in shots.
- Boston College had a 12-2 lead in corner kicks, with a 10-2 margin in the second half.
- Wiebke Willebrandt made two saves for her second shutout of the season … Willebrandt moves to 3-1-0 on the year.
- Boston College is now 20-0-0 all-time against Holy Cross with a mark of 11-0-0 at home.
- This was the fourth consecutive game in the series that the Eagles scored at least three goals and the 16th overall.
- Sam Smith paced the Eagles with a game-high five shots.
- Smith scored her 19th career goal … she now has 44 career points.
- Sydney Segalla scored her first career goal.
- Emily Sapienza scored her third goal of the season to tie her career-high.
- Jessica Carlton and Sophia Lowenberg picked up their first career points.
- The Eagles will now play three consecutive road matches, beginning with a trip to UMass on Thursday, Sept. 1 followed by contests at Boston University (Sept. 4) and Providence College (Sept. 8).
