CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A pair of Boston College football players were named to top-watch lists for major awards at their position since Wednesday beginning with redshirt-junior running back Pat Garwo III (Levittown, Pa.) on the Doak Walker Award Watch List for the nation's best running back. On Thursday, senior wide receiver Zay Flowers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was included on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List; recognizing college football's outstanding receiver in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Â
Garwo rushed for 1,045 yards in 2021 to become the 19th player in BC history to surpass 1,000 yards on the ground and record the program's 24th overall 1,000-yard season by an individual. He earned All-ACC Second Team honors following the season in which he averaged 5.1 yards per carry and scored seven touchdowns.
Â
Garwo took over as the starting back in week three at Temple following a 160-yard performance at Massachusetts on just 15 carries. He rushed for a season-high 175 a week later against Missouri and finished the season with four 100-yard efforts.
Â
Flowers finds himself on the Biletnikoff list for the second year in a row. His 122 career receptions rank 12th all-time at BC, while his 1,979 receiving yards are 10th. Flowers caught 44 passes for 746 yards, averaging 17.0 per reception, and five touchdowns a year ago.
Â
As a sophomore in 2020, Flowers put up career-highs in receptions (56), yards (892) and touchdowns (9). He was an All-ACC First Team pick in 2020 and Third Team pick in 2021.
BC is one of just three ACC schools with a player on each list, one of 13 Power-5 schools with a player in each and one of 20 across the entire NCAA with one player on each watch list.
