NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon with a 13-8 win over Denver at the Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field.Â
Boston College will face No. 6 seed Loyola Maryland on Thursday at Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field. The Greyhounds earned an 18-8 victory over James Madison in their opening round game on Sunday.Â
Charlotte North was one of three Eagles who scored at least three goals as she totaled a game-high four scores in the win. After giving BC a 1-0 lead early in the contest, she broke the NCAA's all-time goals record, surpassing Courtney Murphy (Stony Brook). North now has 345 and counting for her career.Â
Caitlynn Mossman posted three goals and Jenn Medjid bounced back with a hat trick after going scoreless against UNC.Â
Rachel Hall turned in a solid effort as she made eight saves and posted a .500 save percentage in the win. It's the fifth time this season she's posted at least a .500 save percentage.
Belle Smith and Melanie Welch led the team with a pair of caused turnovers, while North and Hollie Schleicher led the way with six draw controls.Â
Boston College claimed a 3-1 lead after North scored the first two goals of the game, and Mossman answered the Pioneers' lone score in the period.Â
After DU cut the lead to one in the second period, BC went on a 4-1 run to  stretch the lead to 8-4. The Pioneers scored once more, giving the Eagles an 8-5 edge going into the half.Â
It was a defensive third period in which only two goals were scored. BC held Denver scoreless while Smith and Medjid found the back of the net to give BC a five-goal lead going into the fourth.Â
Denver got to within three with under four minutes left in the game, but the hosts scored the final two goals to seal the victory and a ninth straight win at Newton when hosting the NCAA Tournament.Â
