Eagles Fall to Huskies in Non-Conference Action
April 27, 2022 | Softball
Kristin Giery hit her first home run of the season for the Eagles.
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College softball team fell to the UConn Huskies, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Harrington Athletics Village.
Â
The Huskies put up four runs in the first inning off of a two-run double and a two-run home run, but BC starter Peyton Schnackenberg went on to keep the UConn bats quiet over the next six innings. But after Kristin Giery's first long ball of the season made it a three-run game in the bottom of the fifth, the visitors would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh for the 5-1 final.
Â
Schnackenberg went the distance, allowing five runs on six hits while walking three and striking out nine while moving to 8-7 on the year with the loss. The senior sat down 11 Huskies in a row at one point and fanned all three batters she faced in the top of the sixth.
Â
Giery went 1-for-2 on the day, earning one walk, while Ellie Mataya was 1-for-4 and Gianna Boccagno and Djhane Valido both went 1-for-3. Kamryn Warman had a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh to put two-runners in scoring position for the Eagles.
Â
BC is back in action this weekend hosting a three-game series against Virginia Tech. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m. at Harrington Athletics Village.
