Weekend Recap: Eagles Drop Two of Three to NC State

Warman, Slike homer in game three win
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Boston College softball played NC State this weekend, losing the series two games to one. NC State won game one 3-2 and game two 7-3 before the Eagles came from behind to win 9-6 in game three on Sunday.
In game one, Susannah Anderson was dealt the loss, going the distance and allowing three runs on six hits, walking four, and striking out seven. BC was held to just three hits in the opener, one of them being Gianna Boccagno's sixth homer of the season. Kristin Giery and Djhane Valido were responsible for the rest of the Eagles' hits, with Giery driving in Valido with a pinch hit double in the fifth inning.
Walks were the Eagles' kryptonite on Saturday, as Peyton Schnackenberg and Abby Dunning combined to allow eight free passes that became a difference maker. Offensively, Gianna Boccagno hit her seventh home run of the season, and second in as many days. Ellie Mataya and Abigail Knight each picked up a pair of hits, including a triple for Mataya.
BC's offense exploded for fourteen hits and nine runs in their victory on Sunday afternoon.Five Eagles finished with a multi-hit game, including Slike who finished with three hits, five RBI, and the game winning, three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Just three batters earlier, Kamryn Warman hit a dramatic, pinch-hit, three run home run that bounced off the top of the wall to tie the game at six. Schnackenberg picked up the win in relief, going 2.1 innings, giving up two hits, and striking out three.
The Eagles (20-23, 6-15) have two midweek contests this week, traveling to Providence College (23-17) on Tuesday at 3 p.m., and then hosting UConn (32-14) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
