Seven run seventh inning boosts BC over UNCG
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gianna Sarlo's first career home run could not have come at a better time. Pinch hitting down 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning, the junior infielder launched a 2-2 pitch down the left field line and far over the fence to tie up the game at three. That would be all the momentum the Eagles needed, as they piled on six more runs to come back and beat UNC Greensboro 9-3 on Tuesday.
BC took the lead for good on a pinch hit sac fly from Kamryn Warman, but they weren't done. Erika Andal scored on a fielder's choice courtesy of Ellie Mataya. A few batters later, the bases were loaded for sophomore Nicole Giery, who crushed an 0-1 pitch to left center for her first career grand slam.
Giery finished the day with five RBI, doubling off the wall in right center in the fourth inning. Mataya had a sac fly to bring home Djhane Valido in the fifth inning. Valido scored twice and had two hits.
Senior Susannah Anderson started in the circle for BC, going 4.0+ innings and giving up two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Classmate Peyton Schnackenberg relieved Anderson in the fifth and twirled three scoreless innings, allowing just one runner to reach base on a walk.
The Eagles (11-7) head to Boone, N.C. tomorrow to take on Appalachian State (11-7) at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
