BC Loses Extra-Inning Affair to No. 18 Louisville
March 26, 2022 | Baseball
Eagles erase three-run deficit, fall by four in 11 innings.
Junior second baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) hit a game-tying, two-run home run to cap the Boston College (9-13, 1-7 ACC) seventh. The Louisville (18-5, 5-0) responded by setting down 10 consecutive Eagles to get the Cardinals to the plate in the 11th.
BC turned to freshman right-hander Eric Schroeder (Ridgewood, N.J.) after graduate RHP Brendan Coffey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) struck out three in three-scoreless innings of work. The Cardinals set the table with a pair of singles that put runners on the corners before Masterman's RBI-single.
Schroder (0-4) took the loss in one-third of an inning as he allowed three runs on three hits. Freshman RHP Sean Hard (Mahwah, N.J.) struck out five in a four-inning start with a first-inning run charged to his line.
Righty Jared Poland went six innings for Louisville with four runs against on seven hits and a walk to go with four strikeouts. Lefty Michael Prosecky (1-0) got the win for the Cardinals.
BC sophomore first baseman Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run in a three-run fourth inning. UL catcher Dalton Rushing answered in the fifth with a go-ahead three-run homer as the Cardinals plated four.
