Northeastern Holds Off Boston College to Advance in 69th Beanpot
February 07, 2022 | Men's Hockey
BOSTON – TJ Semptimphelter stopped 41 of the 42 Boston College shots he faced and the Eagles' third period surge fell short in a 3-1 loss to No. 15 Northeastern on Monday night in the 69th Beanpot at TD Garden.
The Huskies (18-8-1) advance to face Boston University in the Championship Game next Monday.
Patrick Giles scored the lone BC goal in the third period, his third Beanpot goal in four career games. Down 2-0 entering the third, Giles took a beautiful feed from Nikita Nesterenko in the right circle and beat Semptimphelter high glove side to pull the Eagles within one.
Boston College (10-14-4) pulled Eric Dop (26 saves) in the final minutes for an extra skater, but the Huskies sealed the win with 14 seconds left on a power play rebound from Justin Hryckowian.
Gunnarwolfe Fontaine handed NU the lead at 8:05 of the first period, finishing his own rebound on a shot that trickled through Dop's pads. Minutes prior to that, Aidan Hreschuk had nearly opened the scoring but hit the right post from the point through traffic.
Sam Colangelo doubled Northeastern's lead on a power play one-timer in the left circle 5:23 into the second.
BC finished the night with a 42-29 advantage in shots on goal, including an 18-9 edge in the third period.
The Eagles will play Harvard in the consolation game next Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. after hosting UConn this Friday at 7 p.m.
