Kaiser's Late Winner Lifts No. 14 UMass Lowell Past Boston College 3-2
February 04, 2022 | Men's Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Zach Keiser scored with 1:45 left in regulation to snap a 2-2 deadlock on Friday night and 14th-ranked UMass Lowell took three Hockey East points with a 3-2 road victory over Boston College at Kelley Rink.
The River Hawks (15-6-3, 12-5-1 HEA) extended their lead atop the league standings, while the Eagles dropped to 10-13-4 (5-9-3 HEA).
Sophomore Trevor Kuntar led Boston College with a goal and an assist, while classmate Gentry Shamburger posted his first collegiate goal. Eric Dop stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced in net.
Kuntar created the game's first goal at 6:37 of the opening frame by forcing a turnover at the Lowell blue line. The winger quickly backhanded a pass into the left circle for Shamburger, who buried a first-time shot into the top right corner for the first of his career.
The River Hawks answered with under two minutes left in the first on a blocker side one-timer from Ryan Brushett in the right wing circle.
Late in the second period, Dop kept the score tied with an outstretched right pad save on Isac Jonsson and covered the puck with his right skate for a faceoff.
Kuntar put the Eagles back on top on the power play two minutes into the third period, spinning a heavy shot glove side on Owen Savory from the high slot. Marshall Warren and Jack St. Ivany picked up the assists on Kuntar's seventh of the year.
Lowell had an answer midway through the third when Owen Cole one-timed a feed from Carl Berglund high glove side for a shorthanded game-tying goal. In the final two minutes of regulation, Kaiser located a loose puck in the left circle and fired a shot blocker side under Dop's armpit for the game-winner.
BC closed the night 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
The Eagles face Northeastern on Monday at 8 p.m. in the 69th Beanpot at TD Garden.
