Eagles Sweep Doubleheader on Day One in Birmingham
February 26, 2022 | Softball
Lights out pitching and timely hitting leads to two wins for BC
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior pitcher Peyton Schnackenberg twirled a complete game shutout and sophomore Nicole Giery launched her first home run of the 2022 season in the top of the sixth inning to boost the Eagles to a 1-0 win Saturday morning against Samford in game one of a double header.
Giery's homer proved to be the only support Schnackenberg would need, as she limited the Samford hitters to only three hits. She struck out four Bulldogs and walked one.
Offensively, BC had five hits. Ellie Mataya had a double and a triple, Giery had a single along with her home run, Abigail Knight singled as well.
In game two, Giery got the scoring going once again with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to score Knight. Freshman Hannah Slike singled home Erika Andal in the fifth to cap off the BC offensive attack.
Susannah Anderson earned her third win of the season with a complete game shutout, allowing six hits, walking two, and tallying a career high 11 strikeouts.
BC improves to 7-5 after sweeping the doubleheader. The Eagles will face both Samford and Indiana State again tomorrow, taking on the Bulldogs at 10 a.m., and the Sycamores at 1:30 p.m.Â
