Eagles put Power on Display in Bulldog Classic Finale
February 27, 2022 | Softball
McDonough, Boccagno homer in 10-2 run-rule victory
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Darien McDonough and Gianna Boccagno each hit three-run home runs to left in the top of the third inning, and that proved to be all the Eagles would need to take down Indiana State on Sunday afternoon. BC won 10-2 in five innings to cap off a 3-0 weekend at the Bulldog Classic at Samford Softball Field.
After giving up two runs in the second inning, Peyton Schnackenberg settled in, striking out five and only allowing four hits to pick up her second win of the weekend and improve to 4-0 on the season.
Offensively, BC's bats exploded for eleven hits. Four Eagles had multi-hit games, including senior Ellie Mataya who led the way with three. Hannah Slike, Djhane Valido, and Boccagno each had two apiece. Boccagno and McDonough carried the offense from an RBI standpoint with three each, Slike brought two home on a single in the 6th to put the run-rule in effect. Mataya and Valido each drove in a run as well.
BC improves to 8-5 after sweeping the weekend in Birmingham. Up next for the Eagles is a trip to Providence College this Wednesday for a midweek matchup with the Friars.
