Spring Ball Notes From Practice No. 1
February 26, 2022 | Football
Eagles and a new offense began preparations for 2022 inside Fish Field House on Saturday.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The third spring under head coach Jeff Hafley got underway for the Boston College football team inside Fish Field House on Saturday morning. The practice had the look and feel of a workout far different than the coach's first two offseasons on the Heights as BC and college football navigated through the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020. Additionally, the Eagles welcomed four new assistant coaches; all on the offense. Hafley, who kept his original staff intact for two years, made all four changes after the first of the year with two assistant leaving for the NFL in recent weeks.
Â
Saturday marked the first of 14 spring practices leading up to the annual Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, which is scheduled for April 9 at 11 a.m. on ACC Network. The Eagles will get in three practices before Boston College's spring break and then resume on Tuesday, March 15.
Â
Notes From Day One:
Who's New?: Saturday marked the first official practice for four assistant coaches, including Dave DeGuglielmo (Offensive Line), Savon Huggins (Running Backs), John McNulty (Offensive Coordinator) and Darrell Wyatt (Wide Receivers).
Players participating in their first team practice at BC (by position) – DB Amari Jackson, DL Edwin Kolenge, Regen Terry, OL Noah Clifford, Jude Bowry, ST Sam Candotti, TE Jeremiah Franklin, WR Dino Tomlin

First Track Heard During Team Flex: "In Da Club" (50 Cent)
Â
Early Work: Fifth-year kicker Danny Longman and sophomore Connor Lytton were among the first to arrive in the Field House and alternated field goal attempts from the 15- to 35-yard lines with Lytton drilling the 45-yarder. Longman and freshman, early-enrolled punter Sam Candotti from Australia alternated as the holder. Longman and Candotti both showed off their leg strength later in the practice; booming punts into the rafters and well over 50 yards.
Â
On Offense: Two-year starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec got to work under center with redshirt-freshman center Drew Kendall, who takes over for All-ACC First Team pick Alec Lindstrom. Jurkovec finished practice connecting with tight end Joey Luchetti on a deep first-down completion to end the day.
Â
From the Defense: In 7-on-7, redshirt-freshman linebacker Casey Phinney provided the big play of the morning with a pick-six.
Â
Two-Sport Athlete: Redshirt-freshman defensive back Jalon Williams was absent from Saturday's practice as he competed at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships. On Friday, Williams set the BC record in the 60-meter with a time on 6.83.
