Boston College Builds on Tournament Resume
DURHAM, N.C. - The Boston College women's basketball earned a crucial resume-building win over Duke on Thursday evening inside Cameron Indoor Stadium, 67-51.Â
BC snaps a four-game skid on the road, improving to 18-10 and 9-8 in the ACC. Duke falls to 16-11 and 7-10 in the league.
It's the first time since joining the ACC that BC has defeated the Blue Devils on the road.Â
Four players scored 67 of the team's points, with Cameron Swartz pouring in a game-high 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting. She added seven rebounds in the win. The senior guard has now scored 20-plus points in five straight games.Â
Maria Gakdeng had it going on both ends of the floor, where she hit seven of her nine shots en route to 16 points. The freshman grabbed a team-best eight boards and broke the single-season school record for blocks. She swatted a personal-high six shots and now has 63 for the season.Â
Makayla Dickens was a spark off the bench, scoring 16 points and dished out four assists. Taylor Soule chipped in with 11 points and grabbed seven off the glass.Â
The Eagles came out of the gate shooting 69.2 percent in the first quarter to jump out to a 19-10 lead.
BC stayed in control until the Blue Devils sliced the lead to five late in the second period. Swartz's trifecta with 15 seconds left gave the Eagles a 31-23 advantage going into the break.Â
Boston College gained separation in the third quarter, as it jumped out to a 20-point lead after hitting four straight shots - three of which were from outside the arc.Â
Duke made things interesting in the fourth when it cut the deficit to single digits. BC responded coming out of a timeout thanks to a layup from Gakdeng and a three-point play by Swartz to help the Eagles pull away for the win.Â
The defense held Duke to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor, while holding a 43-30 rebounding advantage.Â
BC ends the regular season on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Syracuse on the road.Â
