Eagles Down Wake Forest on Senior Day

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team sent the seniors out with an 82-70 win over Wake Forest in the home finale on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum.Â
BC moves to 17-10 on the season and 8-8 in ACC play, while the Eagles finish 13-3 at home. It's the most home wins since the 2007-08 season when the Eagles won 15 inside Conte Forum. Wake Forest falls to 13-14 and 3-13 in the league.Â
It was a team-centric performance in which the Eagles dished out a season-high 26 assists on 34 field goals and shot 59.6 percent from the floor - the highest shooting performance in league action.Â
Cameron Swartz led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, upping her streak of games with 20 or more points to four. She added five assists and four rebounds.Â
Taylor Soule shot 7-for-14 en route to 17 points, dished out five assists and grabbed three off the glass. Makayla Dickens came off the bench to have a bounce-back performance (0 pts last two games) with 11 points, six rebounds and five helpers.Â
Maria Gakdeng scored nine points, corralled eight rebounds and blocked three shots. Marnelle Garraud got it done on both ends of the floor with eight points, seven rebounds, a team-high six assists and two steals.Â
Wake Forest's only lead came in the opening 1:28 of the game before back-to-back 3-pointers by Garraud gave BC a commanding lead. The Eagles held a comfortable 22-6 lead after putting together an impressive 19-2 run, hitting four trifectas during the surge and holding WF to 4-of-15 shooting.Â
BC held a 22-11 edge going into the second period with the stellar play carrying over. The Eagles made their last eight shot attempts of the half to take a 49-29 lead going into the break.Â
The visitors made a push into the third frame, outscoring the Eagles by 12 (27-15) to slice the gap to single digits at the end of the third.Â
A layup by Gakdeng followed by a jumper from Dickens stretched the lead back to double-digits. Wake Forest never threatened the rest of the way, leading to BC earning a third win in the past four victories in the series.Â
The five seniors of Garraud, Swartz, Dickens, Soule, and Clara Ford were honored before the game. Senior managers, Tom Adel, Grace Lombardi and CJ Keyes were also recognized.Â
BC returns to action on Thursday against Duke at 8 p.m. in Durham, N.C.
