Dop Leads Eagles Past No. 13 Northeastern 4-1 at Matthews
February 18, 2022 | Men's Hockey
BOSTON – Led by 30 saves from Eric Dop and goals from four different players, Boston College opened a weekend home-and-home series with a convincing 4-1 Hockey East victory over No. 13 Northeastern on Friday night at Matthews Arena.
Â
The Eagles (11-15-5, 6-10-3 HEA) improved to 6-1-0 in their last seven visits to Matthews and clinched the three-game regular season series with the Huskies (19-10-1, 10-7-1 HEA).
Â
Colby Ambrosio posted a goal and an assist for a multi-point night, while Marc McLaughlin netted his league-high 19th of the year in his first game back from the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Trevor Kuntar and Marshall Warren also lit the lamp in the win.
Â
Boston College netted three of the four goals in an offensive first period. Ambrosio opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the game, flipping a backhander blocker side following a net drive down the right wing. Kuntar fired a long rebound through traffic from the high slot at 3:51 for a quick 2-0 advantage.
Â
Matt Choupani put the Huskies on the board from just inside the left circle at 14:25, but McLaughlin buried a rebound at the right post less than 90 seconds later to restore the two-goal cushion.
Â
Warren extended the lead just past the midway point of the second, going coast-to-coast at the tail end of a power play before deking backhand to beat TJ Semptimphelter glove side. Dop posted his first assist as an Eagle on the play, which started behind the BC net.
Â
Dop stopped all 16 shots he faced in the third period, including a key save on Sam Colangelo from the right wing circle.
Â
BC out-shot NU 25-15 in the first two periods combined and took only one penalty all night.
Â
The teams close the series on Saturday night at Kelley Rink at 7 p.m.
