
BC Outlasts Pitt in Season Sweep

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team outlasted Pittsburgh on Tuesday evening, 69-57, in Conte Forum.Â
The Eagles earn the season sweep over Pitt, improving to 16-9 on the season and 7-7 in the ACC. The Panthers are now 11-13 and 2-12 in the conference.Â
Taylor Soule scored 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and grabbed four rebounds. Cameron Swartz poured in 22 points and tied a game-high with eight off the glass. The dynamic duo scored 45 of the team's points on a combined 15-for-34Â shooting from the floor.Â
Maria Gakdeng scored eight points, grabbed eight boards and collected three blocks.Â
BC had to shake off a 12-0 deficit and an 0-of-6 start in the first quarter. The Eagles got it going when they made four of its final five shots to slice the deficit to 17-10 going into the second period.Â
The Panthers held a 25-16 advantage until BC put together an 11-1 run over the final 4:59 of the half to take a 27-26 lead into the break. Soule scored the first nine points of the run before Swartz's layup gave BC its first lead of the game. The defense forced Pitt to go scoreless over a 4:35 span and miss its last four attempts of the period.Â
BC kept the momentum going by stretching the lead to as much as 15 midway through the third quarter thanks to five forced turnovers and 1-for-7 shooting from Pitt.Â
The Panthers didn't go away quietly, where they brought the lead to single digits going into the final frame. Ally VanTimmeren put the Panthers away for good, as she scored six of her points consecutively to give BC a 12-point lead. BC pulled away for its seventh win in the past eight meetings against Pitt.Â
BC forced 25 Pitt turnovers for 26 points and won the battle on the glass, 38-27.Â
The Eagles will have a quick turnaround with a 7 p.m. affair at Florida State on Thursday.Â
