Tar Heels Beat Eagles 1-0 on Late Winner in ACC First Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 7 seed North Carolina broke a scoreless tie with under 10 minutes left in regulation and held on to beat No. 10 seed Boston College in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday night at Dorrance Field.
The Eagles closed the 2022 season with a record of 4-7-5, while the Tar Heels advance to the ACC Quarterfinal to face Syracuse at 8-4-5.
Junior keeper Brennan Klein made five saves, including a spectacular stop on Milo Garvanian in the 54th minute with his right hand.
The game's lone goal came off a North Carolina corner kick in the 82nd minute. Cameron Fisher curled a ball to the back post at the edge of the six-yard box and Ernest Bawa elevated to nod the ball into the bottom left corner.
Diego Ochoa nearly equalized in the final minute of play, but his heavy left-footed effort from 25 yards out was pushed wide by Marco Saborio-Perez diving to his left.
Camilo Ponce led the Eagles with a pair of shots, including an attempt on the edge of the UNC box late in the game. Bawa had six shots to lead the Tar Heels.
