Dontavia Waggoner Captures First-Career Double-Double
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball fell to Harvard by a score of 68-59 on Thursday evening in Lavietes Pavilion. Boston College drops to 1-1, and the Crimson improves to 2-0.Â
Dontavia Waggoner tied a team best with 16 points to go along with a season-high 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her career. She also tallied three steals.Â
Maria Gakdeng also scored 16 on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor and grabbed seven off the glass. JoJo Lacey turned 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of swipes. Taina Mair led the team in assists (8) and steals (4) while grabbing three boards.Â
Harvard captured an early lead in which it shot over 50 percent in the first period to claim a 20-10 advantage going into the second. Â
Three different Eagles scored to start the second with a 6-0 spurt that sliced the gap to four, 20-16, but the hosts stretched the lead back to double digits later in the quarter with eight straight points. The Crimson went into the half with a 34-22 edge.Â
Later in the third, Waggoner and Gakdeng scored on back-to-back possessions to bring the lead to seven. However, Harvard kept the Eagles from gaining more momentum, pulling away for the victory.Â
Boston College shot under 45 percent from the field and hit two 3-pointers compared to Harvard's 10 trifectas.Â
Boston College returns to action on Sunday at 4 p.m. against No. 14/15 Ohio State in Conte Forum for the Alzheimer's Awareness Game.Â
