CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball suffered an 82-64 setback to No. 14/15 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum.Â
Boston College falls to 1-2 on the season, while the Buckeyes improve to 2-0.Â
Maria Gakdeng highlighted the offense with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor and added five boards with four blocked shots. Dontavia Waggoner continued her aggressive play on the glass with a career-high 13 rebounds, scored nine points and collected six steals - also a career best.Â
Andrea Daley turned in her best game as an Eagle with a personal-high 11 points off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds. T'Yana Todd chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Her freshman teammate, Taina Mair, handed out 10 assists with seven points and three steals.Â
It was a back-and-forth affair in the first quarter in which no team led by more than five points. OSU took a 17-12 lead before baskets by Gakdeng and Daley before the end of the first period sliced the deficit to just one.
With BC trailing 21-16, Todd and Daley scored layups on three straight possessions to give the Eagles a 22-21 edge. Ohio State answered the run by hitting eight of its next 10 attempts and held BC to three points over the final 6:06 of the first half to claim a commanding lead.Â
Boston College tried to get back into the game after being down 17 at the half. JoJo Lacey scored five of her 11 points on the first two possessions to cut the deficit to 12. However, the Buckeyes stretched the lead with a 7-2 run to pull away for the victory.Â
The second quarter proved to be the difference, as the Buckeyes outscored BC by 16 (Plus-2 in other three periods). Ohio State also capitalized on Boston College's mistakes with 39 points off turnovers.Â
BC did control the glass with a 43-32 rebounding edge and 17 offensive rebounds. The Eagles forced Ohio State into 23 turnovers for 23 points.Â
