
Flowers, Onwuka Claim Weekly ACC Awards

Flowers adds honors from Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior Zay Flowers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was named the ACC Offensive Receiver of the Week and graduate defensive tackle Chibueze Onwuka (Bowie, Md.) the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The award is the fourth in Flowers' career and first for Onwuka.

Flowers also earned Reese's Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week and East-West Shrine Bowl Breakout Offensive Player honors. He caught five passes for 151 yards, including 59 after the catch and two touchdowns to beat Louisville this past Saturday. Flowers scored on receptions of 57 and 69 yards; the first of which he made a spectacular catch over the top of the defender and continued on into the end zone. He added a 22-yard rush on a broken play that set up the Eagles' first touchdown of the day/

Flowers took over second in the BC record book in career receiving yards at 2,460. The game marked his seventh career 100-yard game.

Onwuka collected a career-high nine tackles with two tackles for loss. Following a Louisville second-quarter touchdown that put BC down by two, Onwuka blocked the point-after attempt, which held as the difference in the Eagles' one-point win.

Boston College returns to action for its annual Red Bandanna Game, honoring Welles Crowther '99, Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
